CHILDHOOD IN NATURE FOUNDATION
The amount of time children play in nature at home, school, and daycare has dropped while screen time is at an all-time high. Decreased outdoor play
has been linked to physical and mental health risks.
Our mission is to bring childhood back to nature through
programs, community education, and social activism.
As our Scandinavian friends say, "There is no such thing as bad weather, only wrong clothing!" Here at the Childhood in Nature Foundation, we seek to encourage adults to take children outside to play in all seasons and most weather through three action steps:
Gaining awareness of the consequences of an indoor/sedentary lifestyle through education and training. Evaluating the amount of outdoor play present in the weekly and daily routines impacting children.
Committing to removing barriers to outdoor play through equitable goal setting. Creating a plan to increase the amount of time in nature by addressing access,
altering routines, and stocking up on all-weather gear.
Implementing new policies and practices that increase outdoor play time for all children. Communicating new policies with stakeholders and program participants. Acquiring new gear through a Gear Grant from the Childhood in Nature Foundation!
